BIO:
Singer songwriter, multi instrumentalist, Lisa Lim has been a music educator for the past 18 yrs. Lisa has been performing in bands, duo's & solo since her early teens. She's played it all. Rock, Blues, Folk, Country, Jazz, Rockabilly, Metal, Americana, etc. Lisa started learning piano at the age of 7. She studied classical piano and attended two classes per week. A private session with her instructor and a group session with other students. She quickly picked up music theory, sightreading & technique in her playing. Monthly performances helped her become comfortable with performing in public & each year, competitions she'd partake in was excellent in helping her develop attention to detail in her playing & overall performance.
Lisa continued with piano as she started to pickup the guitar at age 10. Her father came home one eve with an acoustic guitar in hand. Lisa had an interest in learning the guitar from as far back as she could recall. With new strings on her acoustic guitar and a beginner book in hand, that her dad passed along to her, she pursued the guitar with complete & utter determination. Shortly after, she started taking lessons on a weekly basis. She worked with a couple of instructors over the yrs. Her 2nd instructor, jazz guitarist, Pete Sellers, took Lisa very seriously & had the biggest impact on her learning experience. Mr. Sellers would take Lisa to his jazz combo performances. Lisa got exposed to being in music venues at an early age and got to also learn about the business side of being a working pro musician. Opportunities presented themselves and Lisa got to sit in on gigs and perform. Needless to say, she was hooked!
From that point on her instructor encouraged her to connect with other musicians her age and jam. Each weekend she was usually heading to a friends place and getting engulfed in a jam session. Many weeknights after school, Lisa would spend hrs. in her room playing and woodshedding listening to Jeff Beck, Cream, Danny Gatton, Roy Buchanan, Eric Clapton and the list goes on. She developed her ear early on and would learn solos from recordings then explore building her own solos around recorded rhythm tracks her instructor would pass along to her.
While Lisa was in high school, she was spending her time on the weekends performing in working bands. After high school she continued to work in various regional acts while holding down a day job as well.
Lisa put together and managed ECC, an all female rock band, playing clubs, private parties, festivals & benefits.
Eventually she was on the road touring with Real To Reel based out of Jacksonville, Fl. playing gigs up and down the East Coast full time.
Lisa ended up in Memphis, Tn. for a short stint with a working variety band.
In the mid '90's, Lisa returned to her hometown when her mother's health had taken a serious decline. Her father had passed away yrs. before. So Lisa resolved she had to be on the homefront assisting her mom thru a difficult time. Lisa became a full time caregiver for her chronically ill mother. During this time, Lisa started teaching music lessons part time. From there, it sparked an outlet to share her passion for music with up and coming players. It was the perfect fit. Lisa quickly became in demand as a music educator and was teaching 60+ students a week as her mother's health improved and was able to get more assistance with her mother's caregiving.
Lisa shifted gears and gigged in an acoustic duo, Talk Of The Town, while teaching full time. Playing to venues packed with college students & continuing to strive at having more to offer as a musician stylistically.
Other opportunities came along, working in WILMA, D.C. based all female blues band & regional recognized Bittersweet Band.
All the while, Lisa was studying and developing her skills as a vocalist, learning the mandolin & drums.
Lisa teamed up with fellow music instructor Doug Manring and traveled around performing Americana music & giving demonstrations throughout the mid atlantic regions public & private schools.
Lisa was interviewed by well respected Canadian Blues Artist Sue Foley, for her upcoming book, Guitarwoman. A book chronicaling female musicians of past & present that have & are continuing to make huge strides in the music industry.
Lisa continued gigging with new music project, Flaming Red Horizon and recording vocal & keyboard tracks on Dave Guy's Debut solo cd, "Undertow."
Lisa competed in Guitar Centers, King Of The Blues, winning regional competition and advanced to the next level.
Lisa was staying busy writing and collaborating with other singer songwriters. While, compiling material for her debut cd, Crazy Feelin' This Way", she launched her power trio, Lisa Lim Band.
LLB began hosting blues jams and performing every week throughout the mid atlantic region for the past 5 yrs.
In 2008, Lisa's debut cd, "Crazy Feelin' This Way", received a WAMA nomination for best blues/r&b recording.

In 2009, National Guitar Workshop added Lisa to their faculty. Lisa taught Blues Core & Special Interest classes at NGW's McLean, Va. campus. Students of all ages, playing ability, styles and national artists come together for a week of sharing their passion of music with one another. It's exhausting & exhilarating at the same time!
In the Fall of 2009, Lisa started working with Hot Rods & Old Gas, 4 guitars, 3 vocalists, blues, rockabilly, country, etc. & started new project Lisa Lim & Over The Limit performing original & covers rockin blues! LLB is still going strong hosting Va. Go Girls Open Jam the 2nd & 4th Thursday of each month & playing club gigs. Lisa Lim is Coordinator for Virginia Go Girls Music Chapter.
